I am working on an example of this radio at the moment. It now goes well and I am working now on both the case and the plastic fascia or escutcheon and also the dial mechanism.The tuning thumb wheel drives both the permeability tuning and a tiny drum, visible through the front which has the frequency and station marks on it.Riders gives the schematic for it but no dial stringing diagram.I have managed to get a dial cord onto the thumb wheel and the drum and it works but not very well and I wondered if anyone could point me to a place where I could find a dial stringing diagram for it or perhaps, if they have an example of this set they might photograph the dial cord arrangement and put it on the Phorum.When I got this set the dial cord was broken.
I also notice ,in the Radiomuseum illustration of this set that there seem to be two "wings"bolted to the sides of the set which presumably help to locate the set in the dash and are fixed into the dash with two chromed knobs. My set did not come with these. If someone were kind enough to post the dimensions of these "wings" I could probably have a go at fabricating them myself. Thank you and best wishes.

The "B47" is part of the serial number and nothing much to do with the model number. The brand and model is a Delco model 986146 and is from1947. I saw the Riders but like you said not much there. You could try Sams Photofact. They produced service information from 1946 on. Their manuals are still under copywrite so for the most part you have to buy them. Unless a friend has the folder you need and can scan it on the down low. The folder for your set is #28-6 It may or may not have the dial stringing info in it but generally they are a little more in depth than the Riders.

Thanks Radioroslyn for your reply and info on the model number.Sams Photofacts are fairly thin on the ground here but it is great to know the volume number which I'd need.The NZVRS may have some tucked away somewhere.In the meantime someone may have a set they'd be willing to photograph the insides of and hopefully to give some pointers on size etc. of the "wings". I have a set of SAMS dial string diagrams and the index shows vol. 2, #646. I think this might be it.

Thanks so much for your interest in my project and thanks for taking the time to upload the dial stringing diagram. However I'm not sure at this stage if it is the right one.The diagram is too big for my screen and I don't have the computer skills to make it smaller so I can see the whole diagram. Also, what bits I can see refer to a gang being fully closed. The B47 uses permeability tuning so there is no gang as such:rather the cores are fully in or fully out. Perhaps Sams uses " gang " and " core " interchangeably . As a previous contributor has pointed out B47 is not strictly the Chev part or model number . The correct designation seems to be Delco 985792 and this number may yield up the correct diagram.Thanks for your help with this. It is a nice radio and I'd like to have it going well. I have just re read your post and noted the model number you quote there and mine is different.I have looked inside the case of the set and find there a piece of paper stuck in reading "Chevrolet Motor Company Model 985792 ".Could it be that there were several iterations of the B47? Either way this is the model I have and thank you for being kind enough to check it out for me. Information on American sets especially car radios can be hard to find here in N.Z. so I'm really pleased the Phorum allows us to access your huge data resources. Thanks and all the best. .

Here's a few other references that might come in handy for US sets.

On the left side bar you'll see Beitmans another good reference for diagrams only. Covers 1923- abt 1970 and just popular models. Not as comprehensive a Sams or Riders. You'll need to know the yr of production as that's how the volumes are set up.

I have been able to download and print the dial stringing diagram for this set from the link you sent. This is one of the last jobs to do on this restoration.
