Bought a Philco Model 60F Console some time ago.  Dusted off the cobwebs and began looking around.  The type 78 tube was broken inside the shield so I ordered one.  The line cord had nearly dissolved, cut it off and proceeded to see what the old girl needed.  Someone had been poking around, two of the "filter" caps ( the ones in the big rectangular can) had been replaced with Sprague units, looks like in the 50's or 60's.  I disassembled the two 8UF electrolytic caps, put new parts inside and put them back.

The speaker field coil was open, so I disassembled it and found some arcky-sparky spots between the bobbin and the hum-buck coil.  I got to picking around in the carbon spots and found the burned off wires.  I ohmed the one going to the inner part of the coil and one of the field coil connecting wires and got 1100 ohms! Yipee!!.  I was able to reconnect the two ends, secured the fragile splice with super-glue gel and lots of fingernail polish.  Put the speaker back together, and I'm sure it'll work again.

The Grommets for the tuning cap have shrunk and turned into concrete, and the dial face is broken at one end and all the numbers have rubbed off.  Ordered new Grommets from renovatedradios.com.  Ordered an new dial face from Radiolaguy.com.

Philco QC must have been pretty crappy back then, as several connections are not even soldered.. The wires are crimped around the lugs, but nobody added any solder.  Friday afternoon maybe...ha...  Its a wonder the radio ever worked.

Getty antsy and want to apply some power (thru a variac, slowly of course) so I measured the power transformer coils.....aw crap.  The primary is open!!  Sure wish I had checked this first.  well I've got so much into this radio already, I have to continue.   The schematic doesn't list voltages, So I don't know what the HV secondary is.  I looks like Philco used similar circuits (at least the power supply) for many different models.  Anybody know what the HV is for this model 60F?

Thanks Folks....

680v, 6.3v, and 5v.

Thanks Terry, I have something to go on now. I can look for a replacement or kludge something in to see if this radio is worth it once i power it up. I ought to build a HV bench supply like I had many years ago.

There is a gentleman over on ARF that is selling a Philco 60 chassis for $8. Look in the classifieds.
did you check to see if the power switch is ok?
