Hoping to find someone who is experienced with this miserable Philco M-24 record changer. After dismantling it to get rid of the grease-turned-adhesive lubricants, I have it assembled, lubricated, and am going through adjustments. I think I'm pretty good except for one thing, the trip adjustment. Sorry, this might get a little long:
So the adjustment procedure says to bend the "ear of the trip plate assy" to set the trip point. The best I can tell, my problem is related to the tone arm height adjustment. If I adjust the tonearm height as instructed, with the stylus 1/8" above the baseplate, the changer will not raise the tonearm up high enough to get over the post on the tonearm cradle, so will not play records with the tonearm in the cradle. Under these conditions, if I lift the tonearm out of the cradle, cycle a record, the tonearm swings out against the outside of the post on the cradle before moving to set down. This is what determines the starting position of the Trip Arm. Under these conditions, the trip point is within a range that I can adjust by bending the "ear" on the "trip plate assembly".
If I set the tone arm height such that it is able to raise the tone arm high enough so the changer can lift it over the post on the cradle to start a record, then when I cycle a record, the tonearm swings roughly 1/2" farther out, against the rubber stop on the back of the tonearm cradle, like I think it should. This, however, sets the starting point of the "trip arm" roughly 1/2" farther cw. Now it trips with about 1/2" to go on the record, and there is not enough range bending that "ear" to adjust it.
I feel certain the tonearm is intended to swing all the way out, over the post on the cradle, against the rubber stop on the outside of the cradle, but there is absolutely no way to get it to finish a record under this condition.
Can anyone help? I'm guessing no sensible person has ever done one of these little gems.
