I just purchased a Philco model 630, looks like a 630x from the pictures. I have never tried to restore an antique radio before and would really like some tips and pointers on the inner workings. I believe I have identified the two capacitors and am looking into getting some new ones at a local electronics shop if not by mail order. I have also located where I will need to attach a new plug as the current one is frayed. The previous owner said when he slowly increased the voltage in powering it up he heard a crackle and a hum which lead him to believe the speaker is still in operating condition. Is there anything I should know about this particular model? Any and all help is greatly appreciated as have no idea what I have gotten myself into.
I'd suggest reading the various articles here:

Generally capacitor replacement is required and that includes those Bakelite box capacitors. That may be all that is required other than mechanical aspects like replacing crumbly wiring, etc. Its hard to cover all the bases in a single post so keep asking specific questions.
