Greetings all:
I am in the process of completing the basic electronic upgrading on the above model but having some difficulty identifying the value of one of the resistors under the 35Y4 tube. I tried using a 1200ohm 1 watt &, then a 2 Watt but when I play the radio the resistor begins to smoke and burn.
Most items - connections, tubes, other resistor values have be double tested.
The schematics for the code 128 is difficult to locate.
The 46-420 code 121 is readily available but has a different tube layout.
Any suggestions to the possible value of this resistor offered by more experience restorers are most welcomed.
Hi

According to Philco's service information, the added 1200 ohm resistor is rated at 1/2 watt. This version, as you know, does not use an electrodynamic speaker; it uses a PM speaker and two resistors in place of the original field coil.

It sounds to me like you have something in the B+ line drawing way too much current and burning up that 1200 ohm resistor.

I suggest you contact Chuck and obtain the full service information for this set, which includes all of the production change info including Code 128.

Well worth the nominal cost.
Thank you for the guidance. The problem was solved.
The 1200ohm resistor was soldered to PIN 8 incorrectly (by me).
It belonged soldered to PIN 5/6.
