I'm restoring a 38-12 which has an open field coil. The speaker cone is like new and audio the transformer appears good. I would prefer not the convert to a PM speaker. Can the field coil be repaired? If anyone has attempted to repair the field coil on this or a similar unit (Speaker model BO-1, p/n 36-1366), I would like to hear from you. Suggestions, including dissassembling the speaker and rewinding the coil, would be very much appreciated. Thanks!
Ed, I believe the concensus of opinion is that if the break in the coil is not near the ends and you can resolder leads, you will have to replace it. The way its mounted on the speaker makes it difficult to remove. Usually force fit rivits. Check near the end, look for greenish coloration indicating a spot where its corroded through. PL
Thanks. I was afraid that would be the verdict. It went up in smoke so I guess it's toast now. And a shame because the cone looks perfect.
