Hey guys, been having fun getting my old Philco up and running, just a small stumbling block here, literally. Everything was working just fine, just got the sound quality top-notch, great speakers in spite of their age. Now, I noticed before (I've had the unit for about 10 years) a slight crackling sound while loading records, and then the other day the turntable stopped functioning. I expected the worst, but looking at it it's the littlest of things. However, that could be a big problem.
There's a wire that connects to the phonograph part under the rear of the shaft of the arm that holds the needle (sorry not sure of the technical terms for these things). It's a plastic cap of sorts, probably made out of Bakelite, that says on it Mullax 1500 12.5vac (if that helps). The cap itself is fine, as are the metal connectors.
However, there's a little piece of metal, almost looks like a wishbone, and it's attached to a plastic shaft which has broken off from inside the cap. It was holding down another piece of plastic with a looped piece of metal on the interior that clearly helps the connectors contact inside. On the end that would be sticking out of the cap, there's a small wire in the shape of a loop that holds onto this little piece of metal, and then something else in the guts of the phonograph facing closet to the outside corner under the back of the needle shaft. I'm hoping to find pictures, perhaps a nice photofact, of how exactly that little component sits in there. Of if you can tell me what it does that will help. I can see how to glue it back easily, and how it holds the other piece of plastic, but it's a mystery to me exactly how the little metal loop holds onto anything on the loose side that doesn't hook on the metal wishbone. I imagine it works as tension in some way but I can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated. If pictures are needed and I can submit them on this forum I will. I've attached a picture here I found online which is the SAME model as the one I have, same phonograph and everything. Thanks!
