I am trying to "restore" my philco lowboy cabinet; it is really dry mahogany and I did not know if I should just use an oil on it or what .
Any suggestions?
Hi George and welcome to the phourm!
Just to be clear on your set it isn't a model 70 as it didn't come out till 1931. It's probably a model 87 or 95 but would have to see the back of the set to tell which one it is. I don't know if you know it or not but the legs on your cabinet have been removed. It should stand a bit taller. Here's a pic of it: http://www.philcoradio.com/gallery/1929c.htm#d
I have a model 87 and the 95 both are good set for 1929 technology!

I like to use GoJo pumice free hand cleaner to get all the old oil and wax off first. Then, Howard's Restore-a-Finish it it needs a little color. Finally, Howard's Feed'n Wax (orange oil + beeswax).

Here's a Philco 70 lowboy from 1931 for comparison.

Thanks everyone! I will try the products you recommend for the finish. I am also trying to find a set of legs for my radio since they have been removed.
