Philco 46-1201 code 125 -
Jeepeto - 04-13-2020
Hello from Spain, long time since my last restoration of a philco radio, since we have this confined situation I got some time to do a 46-1201 code 125 that I had stored, the cabinet finish was totally gone cracked, although the wood underneath is ok. The electronics inside looks totally original, the 4x6 speaker cone is well broken so I will have to recone or find a spare, the m7 phonograph is stuck cause of the dry grease so after disassembly is the first thing I am doing now, I can not find any info about the M7 record player adjustments, also after disassembly of the motor and cleaning it I am in doubt about the order of the propeller side washers and clips, anyone have picture of it? I forgot to do a photo (I do of everything but this I forgot) as I recall the order is clip, white paper fiber washer, propeller, metal washer, felt washer, white paper washer and clip??
The mercury switch works but the small grommet that rest on the arm is worn and the grip paint gone, any source for the grommet?
I will post photos of the progress

mcmaster-carr has about the worlds best selection of groommets if you know the size. you might spend some time reading about the materials they are made of and what environments they are best for.as you are in spain all you can do is use their online catalog which isnt as user friendly as the the huge paperback they once offered.and get used to the idea that you will end up buying a bag of at least 100. by the way,is that a mitsubishi military jeep in the backround?

You might want to check the resistance of the ant coil (the one above the tuning cap) looks like something has been eating it.

Thanks for the grommet info falcon123, I will check it and good eye for the jeep!, is not a Mitsubishi but close, a cj3b willys-viasa made under license here in spain for the army
Radioroslyn you have good eyes too, yes a mouse had a little lunch, I checked close and I can see a very thin wire cut (luckily only one) I think I can manage to try to put together with solder.
There is no service manual available for the turntable adjustments?
Thanks and best regards.

Finally I got what I was looking for, as simple as searching the patent engraved number in the motor in google, is very detailed with drawings, also I found the m7 service manual so I can carry on it.

Some photos of the progress with the turntable, the mercury switch is ok, I will change the resistors since are way out tolerance, the motor was cleaned, oiled and recoated with corrosion inhibitor, anyone knows how much voltage should work this motor?
Best regards

a 46-1201 code 122 looks like its 115v 60hz. but you say yours is code 125. are you sure of the code? is it a european model with a 220 or 240 v?

Methinks what you are looking for is service bulletin PR1154. It might be hiding here on the Phorum but I didn't see with a cursory look.

It is a 115 volts unit, just wanted to know if is less voltage to run it or is 115 volt as well, I tried to find the pr1154 but no luck in the phorum, so I got it for few dollars in internet.

Service manual for the M-7 record player (which is what is used in the 46-1201) is indeed in the Philco Library:
https://philcoradio.com/library/download/service%20info/yearbooks/1946-1947/split/Part33-Philco%20Home%20Radio%20Yearbook%201946-1947.pdf

Thanks Ron!, I didn't know about the library, I searched within the phorum.
I got the turntable almost done, I used grommets from an old hard drive that fit perfect and the felt was replaced with new one special for piano, red one instead of the original black, looks nice for me and it is easily reversible if needed in the future, next step will be reflocking the dish and find a jackets for the arms guides, any source for brown flock? I found flock for dioramas but not sure if they will work... thanks!

Cleaning some tubes with q tips I found that the 35l6gt has inside like black powder around the glass, not sure if is normal or not, I add a photo the best way I can take

This set has 3 electrolytic caps, one 40uf and two 15uf, all 150v rated, 40 to 47 I suppose will be ok but 15 to 22 is ok for that part of the circuit? Or should get ones with closer/same value?
