My Trans-Oceanic collection. -
Vlad95 - 03-05-2026
I'd like to dedicate this section to my favorite part of the collection—the Trans-Oceanics radios.
I've mentioned this famous series of radios before:
https://philcoradio.com/phorum/showthread.php?tid=25769&pid=206581#pid206581
Today, I finally completed the restoration of a Zenith Trans-Oceanics 8G005 radio, which I acquired a long time ago (back in 2012).
The radio was purchased for only $60 with shipping, so it was practically a bargain. But it was in condition near the "firewood".
While I was trying to decide what to do with it, I acquired the missing parts—like an wave-magnet antenna, a carrying handle, tubes, paint, and, most importantly, the determination to begin its restoration. A couple of years ago, I completed the chassis restoration. And now, having gathered my strength, I've completed the hull restoration, fully assembled it, and the first post-war Transoceanic is ready to take its place in my collection.

Hello Vlad95,
Very nice! I have about three Zenith Trans-Oceanics in my collection. The one I wish I had kept was the bomber model. I have the sailboat Model 7G605, plus either a 500 series or 600 series, and I also have a 3000-1.
Sincerely Richard

Hello
radiorich
TransOceanic it is my favorite series of devices. Not only Zenith, but all from this category. Of course first priority for tubes devices.
Now I have just several from them -
My Tranc-Oceanic
My Article about Zenith Trans-Oceanic
But at future I'm look to Zenith H500
and very interstin on Zenith Model 7G605 - Bomber
But this model too rare and expensive.
From non Zenith I very interstin Stromberg-Karlson ARM-8
But this radio also rare and expensive.
But any way I vill added all of them at future.
Also I'm looking for transistors model of Zenith Transoceanoc - Royal-1000, 2000, 3000, 7000. Most attractive is Royal R-7000. This last Zenith Transoceanic model has unbrelivible highest parameters. But this radio most expensive too.

Vlad95 beautiful job on that TO. I have a B600 that is my daily driver in the kitchen. My brother liked it so much that I found another one and restored it and gifted it to him!

Very nice! I also like those Transoceanics. I
restored one 8G005YT for a colleague I knew from work and did a
second one for myself. They both sounded good when finished and I had all bands working. I did wind up selling the second one when we were moving cross country and I had to cut down the number of sets that got moved. I'm looking for another one now as a new project.

I recently completed the restoration of my second Zenit 8G005, which I purchased as a donor. But after restoring the first, I got a taste for it and, without stopping, restored the second one as well. This is an earlier version with an octal rectifier. I'll post a brief description of this project here a little later.
I'm currently finishing the restoration of a Transoceanic RCA-3BX671. Once it's finished, I'll also post a description of the restoration process.
And now I'm waiting delivery from eBay my next purchase – a Zenit Transoceanic H500. It will fill a gap in the Transoceanic lineup.

I'm still looking for a Transoceanics . One of the most desirable, a Stromberg Carlson B 64927, is currently listed on eBay, but the price is too painful. I'm hesitant to spend that much money just yet.

>>a Stromberg Carlson B 64927
You mean, AWP-8?
As for H-500 T/O, this is the best-sounding of them all. None of mine sounds as nice.
RCA was Strato-World, not Transoceanic.
Philco was Trans-World.

I also like the Stromberg Carlson, but they don't turn up very often. I sold off my brown Transoceanic as well as the black Y600, but I did a lot of DXing on the Y600 while I had it. I do have a 7G605 Bomber along with the solid state 1000, 3000, Royal 7000, and the R-7000.
My first solid state TO was the Royal 1000 sometime back in the 90's. Just for fun I compared it to a Sangean 803A (possibly a collectors item by now

). That performance test was published by Antique Radio Classified and an on-line version can be read here:
Transoceanic Performance Test
An item to note is I found that Royal 1000 on the floor of a friends workshop and I did nothing to it except pop in some D cells. If it had some alignment and possible capacitor replacement it might have done much better in the test, but even as-is, it performed very well and bested the Sangean in some tests.

Philco was Trans-World.
Naturally, I know that "Transoceanic" is the name of the Zenit super receiver series. It's just the name I use for my entire collection of this class of devices.

This is just copy-paste from eBay post.
My H500 was delivered yesterday.
Exterior condition: 4 out of 5
Interior: 3 out of 5.
I haven't tried turning it on yet; before that, I need to finish the RCA and fix the cracks in the A600's faceplate that my cat made when he knocked the receiver over.

Hi Vlad95,
That
Stromberg Carlson is beautiful, I’d say go for it! You likely won’t regret spending the money but you’ll likely regret passing it up and always remember the one that got away. This maybe explains why I have too many radios
I just learned about TO radios and was lucky enough to pickup two at a radio swap meet yesterday, see attached. I hesitated on a beautiful Hallicrafters model at a booth then walked around another 15 mins and went back to buy it and it was gone! Anyway got these two Zenith units to add to my collection and restoration list. Thanks for inspiring me with your posts and pictures. George
