Although I haven't done it yet I could imagine affixing and old piece of photographic "cc" filters to the back of a dial to change the hue. I think I have a box of 'em somewhere, remember we used to put them in the light path of our enlarger to square up the color when we made prints in the darkroom. OK, so I'm dating myself. Another trick would be to simply tint the pilot bulb with some amber colored varnish. Anyone tried nail polish?
Either way you could do a reversabile mod that would give authentic results. I have a s**t load of problems in my shop with flaky or busted glass, and will post more when I have some time. But this is a start.
