To expound a little more. If the caps are connected on the transformer side of the switch, when the switch is off, you have created a situation where the capacitors are connected in parallel, one end of each cap is connected to the chassis the other ends are connected together by the primary winding of the transformer, effectively doubling the capacity and the current available.
