Karl;
That is a type of wire wound resistor called a "Flex Ohm" that became popular from the mid 30s up until the war, they have fabric covered sleaves on them which often deteriorate either from age or the resistor becoming overloaded, thus looking like a miniature slinky. I think they were used as more compact substitutes for a carbon comp resistor of the same Wattage as they were typically under 5 Watts, and as the name implies you could also bend them somewhat. I looked up that model 15 Pacific schematic on N.A and that resistor is nowhere to be seen, not only that but it makes no sense. Pin 6 and 1 of the 6C6 are for the heater, pin 5 is the cathode, and pin 6 should be connected to either pin 1 or pin 6 of the 6D6 , not through a resistor to ground.
That being said I can see some questionable work was performed on this radio is the past, such as the leads of some components being used as junction points for others, as well as what may be used parts being installed rather sloppy.
Regards
Arran

I'd agree. That work isn't mine!! I've established it works. Now I'm going back through it. The values on the PS cap are wrong and need to be replaced.
I've temporarily replaced that Flex-ohm "slinky" with a 40 ohm resistor so I don't get a short . I need to figure out what's happening with that part.
