I think it is like so:
A - ornate, almost looks like P, rith the left leg curved to the right under the top loop.
i - possibly cursive type lower case. No dot, probably "I" type.
R - small lowercase, same hight as "i" but the fashion is that of a capital "R" (not "r"). Fairly wide.
L - same size, also fashioned after capital "L", not "l".
i - probably same as the first one.
n - lowercase, "n" but fat and wide. With serifs. The top left serif is slanted down, and the lower right is curved upwards.
e - small cursive.

MrFixr - No no no. I indicated I was reading the model label where it says 120 volts, 50-60 cycles, 100 watts. You don't plug a 100 watt, 60 cycle 120v radio into a battery. The Philco 30 is a battery powered set.

Oopsie, sorry Rod! So apparently, like Morzh said, it's NOT a Philco 30.

Update: I don't have to bid. We beat Gemini. She gave the photo to Gemini to identify the radio. Score one for the home team. She corrected the listing.

RodB,
"We beat Gemini." Who/what is Gemini? Thanks, Joe
RE: ID This Model -

Gemini is the Google AI.
PS. I tried to do the same, it failed miserably and gave me all kind of very assuring answers, all of which were wrong.
Rod,
Has she given you the answer what it is, or you want to keep it cryptic to keep us interested

?

Google. Uh-huh.
RE: ID This Model -
RodB - 03-28-2026
Gemini is an AI tool used to search the internet for stuff. Give it a photo or picture and presto, it finds everything that matches. In this case it wasn't close. Maybe because the radio manufacturer that made this AirLine made units that looked closely like big name models. I've noticed lately that the auction descriptions for radios are all very similar sounding. Give Gemini a photo and it gives you a description, all fluffed for your listing.

I tag "-ai" onto the end of all search engine queries to disable AI.
RE: ID This Model -
RodB - 03-28-2026
Like I said, the radio is stored off-site and the day I asked about it she just happened to be there for something else and took the model plate photo. I just checked and the radio is no longer listed. There were no bids on it last night.

Mike,
I think we pretty much nailed it and I told her our reasoning and conclusion. If I see it relisted I will bid the initial 5 bucks and see how it goes. It's only a few miles from me so no problem there. I suppose someone not knowing that it's not a Philco would bid thinking it is (read that quickly).
RE: ID This Model -
morzh - 03-28-2026
Someone, who wants specifically a Philco, probably should know what a Philco should or should not look like before bidding.
I regret not saving my conversation with Gemini.
It gives you every answer with utmost authority in its text, except once you show it is crap, it profusely apologizes, praises you for your good eye and give you the next answer of roughly the same credibility with the same assurances.
I got 5 or 6 different ones; none mentioned Airline.

I have come to despise a lot of the AI which I see online. It seems to be wrong more often than Wikipedia or eBay sellers.
RE: ID This Model -

Dale,
It's a start. It is here to stay and it will get smarter. Many will benefit, but many will not and quite the opposite.
One thing for sure: it is changing lives as we speak and will change many lives. Not all for the better.

Dale and Mike, I absolutely love both of your senses of humor. Just remind me to not get on the wrong side of it!
You ARE correct about AI being wrong more than Wikipedia and eBay sellers (a pretty high bar on the wrong-o-meter).
