Right, that sanding sealer is a clear product. It is designed to go over toner so I’m not sure how it would react to dyes.

Update, finally.  Sanding sealer, grain filler, a couple coats of satin-finish lacquer and one waterslide decal later:

Also includes the first test with the replacement grille cloth.  I did a round of dark brown on the interior just to have a good clean surface.  Will address the bolts that hold the speaker - I can't find a single plain, round-headed brass bolt anywhere - certainly not locally - not even on Amazon as recommended so I will go with the same gold that was used for the pinstripes.  Can always swap them out later if I find something better.  I just feel the contrast will be much improved.

Hopefully final round of lacquer on the front to seal in the decal tomorrow and can call it good on the cabinet.

Best wishes,
Roy

SRv2, quick question: on the 28C, is that a black (or at least very dark) paint, or is it toner you used for the darkest sections?  Not asking for this Philco that's in progress, but the cabinet of the RCA 6K3 that I hope to start sharing about soon that's muscling its way into frame below.

Meanwhile, progress photo.  Escutcheon reinstalled with a freshly-cut dial glass.  Just need to finish up chasing down the electrical gremlins in the chassis before I put it mostly back together.  Then hopefully just have to think about what to do on the knob situation - repros are surprisingly expensive.

Best wishes,
Roy
