Joe -

The Red Book provides replacement information for a much greater number of parts than Mallory. Mallory is designed to sell Mallory parts (controls, condensers, and vibrators). Sams lists replacements for transformers, coils, speakers, and other parts, from a number of brands of replacement parts. Each Sams entry is two pages wide, as opposed to one page in Mallory. Sams is a far better, and broader, source of information about replacement parts.

Dale;
I didn't mention those because I was not sure how many of those were still in business after the war. UTC would have been if they were owned by TRW, i've seen the odd transformer made by UTC, but that make slipped my mind. Of course there was nothing stopping someone from mounting a pre war output transformer in a radio that they had laying around.

Freed and UTC (TRW) were still in business in 1970, because they are in the 1970 REM. I have a 1953 Peerless catalog, and an undated Peerless catalog which looks to be from the '60s.

Dale;
Being somewhat of a space and a science fiction buff I once looked up the two previous missions to the outer solar system prior to the Voyager probes, Pioneer 10 and 11. Both Pioneer's 10 and 11 were actually built by TRW, which surprised me at the time since I associated TRW with the manufacture of auto parts. In any event TRW was still in business up until 2006 when the auto parts division was sold off to Blackstone, and I think the aerospace division went to Lockheed-Martin (may have the wrong company), Blackstone has since sold the auto parts division to ZF.
Is that Freed the same Freed pf Freed-Eisemann fame?

It is Freed Transformer Co., Inc. I don't know if it had any relation to the Freed brothers of Freed-Eisemann.
