Well I gave the PT-69 10+ coats of wax today and finally reassembled her.
So here she is done and done.

still waiting on the resistors. One resistor is busted in half so I have no idea if it works or not. I really hope I rewired it right.

OR, I always thought spraying lacquer was best at temps above 65F and humidity below 65%. No blush problems when you sprayed when it was cold? Thanks!

Bob,
I keep the lacquer and the cabinet inside and then bring it out to spray. It was almost 50+ today so that was even better.
Ok wait that was yesterday, I did all the waxing today but it was also 50+ today.

Nice work! What kind of wax did you use on the PT-69?

RE: Philco PT-49 & Philco 38-62 Resto Chronicles - OldRestorer - 03-29-2014

Johnsons paste wax in the yellow can. there are many others.

Very nice, I have always been on the lookout for a Philco woodden clock radio at the swaps. She came out all purdy.

Thanks for the info! I have a few cabinets waiting for restoration (and warmer weather) so I've been using this time to read up and learn before I begin working on them.

Got my 38-62 out for toning today: I also decided to darken the curved veneer on the 38-62.

let me know what you think..

I tried a new rattle can spray on the 38-62. It was called pottery glaze.

It scared me at first but is it too glossy?

I have added the 41-22CL to the resto chronicles to save room on the forums so I stripped her, grain filled her and added perfect brown (only a few coats) and now I have to put on the decals. Then to make the new dial cover mold.

Does anyone have an extra broadcast/police decal I can buy?
Ill ask on the wanted ads.

Here is the progress:
