Your welcome! I knew you could do it!!!

Some progress on the cabinet door....

I made a tracing of the one original good door that I have and using 3M's 77 spray adhesive I use for grill cloths I glued it to the piece of 3/8" plywood I got at Woodcraft.

There is a 1/32" slot around the main decorative portion that I made with a 1/32" dremel engraving tool.  On the flip side of the door there is a similar 1/16" section.

For the main decorative section I used a router to freehand the design.  It takes practice, some sections are better than others.

After finishing the router portion, the paper was surprisingly easy to peel off.  I thought I would have to sand it off but with very slow pulling you can almost get the entire pattern off in one piece.

There will be quite a bit of hand sanding I think to get the bottoms of the decorative portions smoothed out, get the burnt wood off the edges, and round off the edges just a bit.  The I'll cut the door out and see how close I came to a decent fit.  At least I have a technique now that I can use if this door doesn't turn out well.

Looking good Bob!

RE: Emerson 350 aw - klondike98 - 01-05-2017

still a long way to go but more progress today....

A dremel tool the barrel sanding tool helped get some of the burnt wood (from the router...does that mean my router bit is dull, bad technique, or just the way it goes...?)

Some 150 grit sandpaper wrapped on the end of a pencil eraser seemed best for sanding the bottoms of the decorative routing sections...sloooooow going!

...and the door cut out of the plywood board.  More work to do but getting there  Icon_biggrin

Or moving too slow.

RE: Emerson 350 aw - klondike98 - 01-06-2017

Ah.....thanks Steve....that could be it. I was going VERY slow!

RE: Emerson 350 aw - klondike98 - 01-06-2017

I will wait until warmer weather to fully strip the cabinet but I had to find out whether the top was photofinish or not.  The way it looked originally I thought it might be..... but fortunately after the first round of strip with citristrip it is clearly veneer!  What I thought were areas where the "photofinish" was worn away were just crud spots that came off with the stripping   Icon_biggrin

RE: Emerson 350 aw - klondike98 - 07-14-2017

Finally getting back to the Emerson 350AW and working on the replacement door mentioned a few posts back.  The replacement was made from poplar so I wanted to get its color closer to the walnut in the stripped cabinet.  I tried some walnut stain but that just didn’t look right so I’ve used English Chestnut.  It didn’t come out too bad.  I can see where more sanding would have been helpful but I think when I get some toner on the set it will even out some, hope so.  As I look at, maybe a second application of stain might be inorder…
