Philco 42-365 Question on parts - Guest - 05-12-2008
I am replacing all capacitors in a 42-365. There are two parts I am not familiar with. There is a black component with lugs on the line input. I assume this is some type of line filter. Also, there is a flat metal component approximately (3/8" wide, 1/8" thick, and 2.5" long) on the underside back of the chassis. It has 4 lugs on it. What is this component?
Any help would be appreciated.

The first is a bakelite block condenser.
The other is probably a metal can (wax-paper type) cap.
Info on my site below for re-building the bakelite blocks and the metal-can types can be re-stuffed as well.
Use the stamped number on the b-block for internal info. The metal can type may have its parts number on it, or you will have to reference the parts listing for values.

the long metal component is probably a tapped resistor, check resistance from lug to lug.
