Need P27 (36-1159) Speaker Exact Dimensions - teranz - 03-28-2015

Hi:

I would like to know what the dimensions are of the Philco P27 (36-1159) speaker used in the chassis model 610B tombstone radio.  I know it is a round speaker, maybe 5 inches, and has 6 mounting holes (3 used).  The FC is 1100 DC ohms.

Thanks!  Tom

Hi Tom, Welcome to the Phorum!!
By coincidence I am picking up a 610B tomorrow and can give you some measurements after I get it home and out of the cabinet. It is indeed a 5" speaker. See the speakers.zip file in Ron's useful downloads post.

Hi Bob.. thanks for the welcome!

I viewed the speakers.zip file, great info!  I knew the speaker was close to 5" but I have seen speakers listed as 5 3/8", etc. so I want to be sure it is a true 5".  I'm not sure if I can afford an original Philco speaker so the dimensions are very important.

Thanks Again, Tom

Tom, here's the P-27 speaker out of the cabinet with some measurements on it.  Not sure if you are trying to find a new cone to do a recone or find a replacement speaker & frame.  The cone including the part that is glued down to the speaker frame has a diameter of 5 and 9/16 inches.  The opening in the frame where the cone is free to vibrate is 5 inches across.  The frame itself is 6 inches in diameter with the 3 mounting holes equally spaced 4 and 5/8 inches apart.  The mounting hole center is 5/16" from the edge.

Bob:

That is great info on the speaker, couldn`t ask for more! (I will make a printed copy for my records). The speaker I had from my radio had an open Field Coil and I sold it that way, I'm wondering now what it would have cost to get it fixed. At the time my budget was tight so I put in a PM speaker & load resistors for the Field Coil. I'm wanting to make it more original so while considering all possibilities the exact dimensions are really important.

Thanks so much for the info!

Tom

Gee, it seems to be a generi 6"" speaker. I don't think I have one, but probably others would have to donate or give for postage.

That sounds great... not sure how to request items on this forum yet. The speaker would need to have the 1146 ohm (or close) field coil. I'm open to suggestions but will look for a "wanted to buy" area on this forum.

That would be the "Wanted Ads" section.

Bob,

Is it OK if I use your speaker image in the Wanted Ads? It is a great representation of what I am looking for. I could refer members to this thread if preferred.

Sure, no problem.

Here's one on the auction site. I think it's overpriced, personally. If you were seriously interested in this speaker, I would find out and make sure this was from a 610, and not from a 611 (AC/DC, different field coil).

Ron;
Everything that guy has is overpriced, he wants $25 for a set of Philco rubber shock mounts, the kind that fit on the corners of the chassis, I would guess that they were pulled off a chassis, just like everything else he has. I mean, why settle for a set of fresh reproduction Philco shock mounts when you have have a set of 70 year old dry rotted ones instead?
With regard the speaker, or speakers, yes it's not very well documented what they came out of, though some look like someone wrote out the part number in felt tip pen on the field coil bracket.

Arran

Yes, very overpriced. I've seen some similar speakers on "Play Things of Past" in the $15 - $20 range but the Field Coil or overall dimensions were not quite right.
