Making the knobs match? - louxwe - 05-06-2015

So I am working on my Philco 38-116 and had to buy one of the lower replacement knobs and the switch lever knob, bought aftermarket replacement ones from online but they don't really match the old ones. They are new and shiny and the old ones are.... not. Also the color is not really matching so they sort of stand out. Any ideas on how to make them look the same?

Often folks will simply buy a full set of repro knobs so they all look alike. There have been threads on polishing knobs with Novus products and I recently read about someone who saved old Philco shafts so he could put it into his drill, put a knob on it and then spin the knob while polishing.

Yeah I considered all new knobs but, D**n that would cost almost as much as I paid for the whole radio. I will look into Novus, can't decide if it's better to dirty up the new ones or clean up the old ones, even polished not sure if the color will match, I considered using some left over toning lacquer but that seems a bit risky.

I've used toning lacquer on knobs. It does work! Icon_thumbup
