Philco 118 phunny stuff - rickd - 10-01-2008

Just looked under the chassis of this set and found a couple of "phunny" things.
Cap 74 is supposed to be a single 8µ can. Big glop of corosion on the bottom connection. When pulled, it was very light. Opened it and found:

Also found a few locations of what look like frog eggs:

Bubbles have the texture like airplane glue. Anybody else encountered these?

Looks like the electrolytic presure vent "vented" and sprayed everywhere. Lotsa cleaning to do.
Most likely due to failing cap overheating with increasing leakage current cooking it until it popped.
