Philco Superdyne 7 - jamr005 - 06-13-2016

Anyone know anything about this set? Is it a battery set or AC? Source for a schematic?
Thanks
Joe

This would be a model 70 or 71. Do you have pictures you can post? Both are AC operated. Nice radios.

They printed 9 on 90s escutcheon and 7 on 70s with the "super" and heterodyne" words".
Pics always help.
Correct spelling too.

Hi Joe

A Philco with the inscription "SUPER HETERODYNE 7" on its escutcheon under the dial window would indicate either a model 70 (AC), or model 35 (battery).

How to tell them apart?

If the cabinet has three obvious screws with rosette flanges on the front panel which hold up the (heavy) PM speaker, then it is a 35. No visible screws in front indicate a 70.

Of course, looking in back will tell the tale for certain. No power transformer and tubes such as 30, 32, etc., indicate a model 35. That, plus a thick multi-conductor cable instead of an AC cord. Otherwise it is likely a 70.

Schematics for the 35 and 70 (both early and late versions) can be found here: http://www.philcoradio.com/tech/schema.htm

Also some additional information would be found in the Nostalgiaair copies of Riders here: http://www.nostalgiaair.org/Resources/303/T0000303.htm
