Model 90 cabinet veneer - Guest - 12-02-2008
I may have to do some replacement of the veneers on the
face of this radio... sometime in the past, I think someone
got too enthusiastic with the sandpaper, and some of that
beautifully patterned wood on the arch was feathered away
too much at the edges. Question: Does anyone know what
kind of wood was used on the arch? It's an early model 90.
Cheers,
Nelson

Walnut!

Thanks radiomikee!
I did some exploring around the local woodworking places, and concluded
as well it was walnut... and now I have some good veneer to work with!
This radio may have an interesting history. At some time it sat for a short
period in some floodwater (and there was a BIG flood in 1950 here) and there
was some evidence of Red River mud in some of the nooks and crannies of
the woodwork. The '50 flood is only a guess, of course.
It was only about two inches of water, but that sure loosened
up the bottom board. I've been regluing that and flattening the bottom
veneer piece of the plywood which came off completely and wrinkled up. Want to
keep that on the radio; it's stamped "May 11 1931".
Thanks again for your response!

Hi Nelson, and welcome.
Sounds like a very worthy if challenging project. Best of luck with it.
