50-1724-121 power cord question -

Just bought my first phonograph/radio and am completely new at this. The previous owner tried to power the unit with duct tape around the power cord as the insulation had deteriorated but of course got a pretty good spark. I’m replacing the power cord now but noticed something a bit strange (at least for me) in the middle of the cord. Can anyone tell me what this is for and how to get a proper replacement?

Hi and welcome,
Your cord should be just the run of the mill 2 conductor job BUT it has a third wire that is connect to the FM ant. It doesn't connect the either of the wires carrying the ac current, typically it should end near the plug. You don't have use the 3rd wire it was just a simple way to make a short not very effective FM ant. If you choose not to you'll need to wire up an ant for the FM band.
