Philco Radio Chassis Identification -
rmarc7828 - 12-07-2017
Hello,
I received a radio chassis from a friend. It came with a Philco Model G speaker and I am sure the chassis is a Philco. It has 7 tubes but does not seem to match a Model 511 or Model 86 chassis. I want to restore it to working condition so my kids and grandkids can see how early radios worked. I plugged it in and all tubes lit up except what I think is the rectifier tube (80).
The identification tag is mostly gone but I can make out Philedelphia Storage Battery Co. on the very bottom of the tag.
Would you help me please identify the chassis.
Thank You,
Rich Marchese

Hi Rich,
Unfortunately that didn't work - at least I can't see them.
It looks like your message was originally formatted as follows:
Code:

Even pasting those links into my web browser I am only taken to an error page.
It is possible to get a shared link for a photo from the Google Photos interface:
1. Click share
2. Click 'Get Link'
3. Click 'COPY'
The resulting link can't be embedded as far as I can tell though - it's just a link to your photo in Google Photos that people have to click on. So you wouldn't use them with the
markup. Just paste it directly in your post.

Hi Rich,
Have a look at these to see if they match up. Model 76 and 77.

Without seeing photos, the only two early chassis with 7 tubes would be a 76 (73) or 77 (77-A).
73 = 25 cycle version of 76
77-A = 25 cycle version of 77
Edit: Ah, you posted some photos as I was typing. Looks to me like a 76 or 73 - volume control on left, local-distance switch on right. The 77 has the volume control on the right and a four-position tone control on the left (no local-distance switch).

Rich - awesome, the new links / hosting site works much better. I edited your post to fix one of the links.

Thank you! Looks like the 77.77.A schematic is closest. A couple of differences which probably don't make much difference. On the output side where is shows two #45 tubes. The one closest to the front of the chassis is a 45 and the one to the rear is a CX345. The #27 tube on the schematic is a #127. The three #24 tubes are there as well as the #80.
So is this a 76 or 77 chassis?

Thank you all.
Looks like I have a 76. Now I need to get it working.

I just picked up this Philco chassis , and I don't see any marking on it to determine what model it is.
It has nine tubes with push pull 45s, and an 80 rectifier.
I can post more photos if needed. thanks

Either 95 or96.

It's a 96.
Tone control on left, translucent dial.
Model 95 has the volume control on the left and a local-distance switch on the right, and a brass dial.

Thanks Ron. It makes a difference when you have the schematic.
