My first venture into the wonderful world of tube radios.
This set belonged to my great-grandmother who owned and operated a teeny-tiny neighborhood grocery store, this was the store radio the checker players listened to.
When I got my hands on it in 1984, it was in sad shape. the base  and the front were all that remained of the cabinet and the original shellac finish had darkened so much it was just... black. It wasn't until I put a dab of stripper on it and wiped away a spot of the finish that you could see the beautiful booked walnut burl veneer.
At that time I was working for a furniture refinishing and restoration company so this became a sort of shop project to restore. Two new sides were steam bent and quarter saw walnut veneered and new base molding cut then it was stained and then I applied (and sanded) over 20 coats of hand rubbed polyurethane to achieve that filled grain piano finish.
The chassis only required re-capping and a couple new tubes (which in those dark days before the interwebs were a trick to find).

I do. Nice work.
Interesting that yours is two pieces of booked veneer and mine is four.

I have 2 like that.

They probably just used whatever was available.

You can post pictures of your radio here. You just need to resize them to "small".

RE: 1930 Echophone S-4 - oscartg - 04-13-2018

I try to resize the pictures to 800 x 600, but photobucket is being a bit of a challenge for some reason.

Yes, veneer can be very random, especially the burls.
We re-veneered a 40' long back bar in quarter and rift sawn white oak once. Widths changed from box to box. It really made it tough to maintain a consistent appearance.

800 X 600 will be fine but I don't think you can count on Photo-bucket. You will probably need to resize them in another ap. Or you could just resend them to your email from your phone using the small size. If you have an apple - -don't know.

Would like to see some of your work.

Yeah, photobucket is being a real pain in the fanny perpendicular lately, don't know what's up with that. I post a picture and the next day it disappears and leaves some sort of third party hosting mumbo jumbo.
I have an apple tree, that's about as close to apples as I get.

Photobucket no longer allows you to post pictures on websites unless you pay for the premium service, that's why you run into a lot of posts with that Photobucket error message.   I've switched to IMGUR (free) and most others have switched to another free service also.

I use a free program called InfranView to resize and even do simple editing, although you can also resize in Microsoft Paint, I find InfranView very versatile and easy to use.

I use Flickr to host my images. Photobucket went to a fee based system last year for 3rd party hosting services. So far, I've been happy with Flickr. The App needs some work, but mostly, I'll use it to post from my iMac, with the full featured Safari browser, as grabbing the link from Safari on my iPad is difficult, if not impossible. Icon_crazy

That's the way it always goes. I spend 15 years figuring out how to use photobucket, and they change the rules.
Merde.
