Philco 18 speaker info?? -

Hello, I’m getting my philco 18 alive again. On the schematic it shows item#46 the output transformer as having a value of 5,300 ohms. Mine is measuring about 300 ohms. Thoughts? I did the 9 volt battery trick as per Wilbur and it does click and crackle. Any help would be great! Thank you!!

I'm not sure where it says 5,300 ohm, but it does, then it probably refers to the reflected load impedance (the speaker voice coil as seen through the transformer). The DC resistance is about what you see, 300 ohm or close. It's good.

What schematic are you looking at? The one from N/A shows #48 as the output trans. and #45 as the input trans. But I don't see any resistance readings on this schematic. #46 shows as an resistor.

If you want to keep your speaker check simple unplug the speaker from the chassis and measure the resistance between the four pins any two should have less than abt 1500 ohms. If you get a much higher reading there's trouble ahead. There's two sizes of speakers used in the 18 the 18B uses an eight inch (K-17) or the 10 1/2 inch (H-13) used in the console model. Both were used in the 1936 116B early and late versions.

Hello guys, thanks for the info. My speaker is the 10 1/2". I got the radio working by touching the lead of my multi-meter to the cathode pin... this will be another thread altogether. But at least it seems like my speaker is good!! Thanks again, Jeff

What is the difference between an Philco 18 and a 18 code 124? The code 124 schematic shows no values, the 18 schematic from Riders volume 4, page 4-15 shows the value... thanks!
