hi folks, I have a question for the forum. can the above model be made to work without the power transformer? if so, how would one go about it?

In an absolute sense - yes. But you are still going to need a power supply, probably using a transformer.
In a practical sense - no.
I take it that the original trans. is no good?

I only took a quick look at Rider's, but, it appears that trans was used on several models. You might want to put up a WTB ad here, or there is a guy selling transformers on E-Pay - for too much $.
ARS (Antique Radio Supply) sells new transformers which are not exact replacements but often you can find an acceptable replacement. These too are not cheap.

Best keep an eye out for a used one.
Other radios that use the same or similar tube combinations can also be a source.

There is a classified listing on ARF
https://antiqueradios.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=369280 for transformer for a 40-185, not the same part number but, probably close enough. the 40-185 has one more tube.
