Possible transformer fix! -

I copied this from another web site and thought I'd pass it along. Love cheap easy simple fixes, to a problem Had a input transformer slowly develop a physical hum recently. All voltages were fine, just noisy. Pulled the item out and boiled it upside down in a pan on the stove for about 45 minutes until the tar potting material softend up to the consistency of playdough. I was able to basically repack the material from the opened bottom of the otherwise sealed transform can. Left it to cool, it rehardend of course. Reinstalled: quiet as a mouse. Your experice may be different but worked for m.

This should be good for those of us who restore radios other than Philco - as far as I know, none of Philco's audio transformers were ever encapsulated in pitch, but a good tip nonetheless.
