Handy Hint for those missing lamp jewels in 1940-42 Philcos - Ron Ramirez - 12-15-2009

Many 1940, 1941 and 1942 Philcos that have a door over the dial also once had a red indicator lens in the cabinet, under the dial door, to indicate if the radio was "on" or not.

This indicator lens (jewel) was made of Tenite, as were many of the plastic parts used in 1941-42 Philco radios. As you know, Tenite has a tendency to shrink over time, and it appears most of these jewels have become lost due to the Tenite shrinking.

Someone over at ARF posted a helpful hint for those looking to replace this missing indicator lens. I wanted to direct your attention to this.
