Model 65 Filter Choke Replacement - Sourbone - 02-17-2010

I've recapped a Model 65 and have found the second filter choke (150H 10ma 4000 ohms) to be open. Radio Daze sells a choke that's pretty close (150H 8ma 3700 ohms). I wondered if this will work o.k. or if I need to find a more accurate replacement. Thanks for your help. Dave

That choke is supplying B+ to only one tube, the 227 detector. According to the Philco 87 and 65 service manual, this tube only draws a maximum of 3.5 mA in this circuit, so I feel that the Radio Daze replacement would be OK. The slightly lower resistance will cause the 227 plate voltage to be slightly higher, but it should not make a difference to the radio. If it bothers you, you could add a 300 ohm resistor in series with the choke.
