Pilot lamp for Philco 42-323 code 122 - Guest - 05-27-2010

I am restoring this radio and the pilot lamp is missing. The schematic indicates it is Philco part # 34-2477 and from its connections in the circuit, it appears to be a 110 volt bulb. It has a screw base which is about 3/8 inches in diameter.
Can anyone suggest a suitable replacement and where can I buy it?

Very interesting...I also have a 42-323 (unrestored). I just looked at mine and it is a Code 121...uses a 35Z5GT rectifier and a 47 pilot lamp.

Yup, sure enough, 34-2477 is a lamp designed to operate on 110 to 125 volts. The original was a 7 watt bulb. As a replacement, you can use a night light bulb which is 4 watts but will work fine in your radio and even look authentic as the original bulb had the same shape as the night light bulb.

I believe there are now LED replacements for those older night lights. I see no reason why this would not also work, although the bluish-white light may not be to your liking.

Thanks Ron. I wish the solution was always this easy.
I just finished cleaning up the cabinet and recapping the chassis. The radio works very well, it is one of the most sensitive I have seen. Of course, I have been working on 20s and 30s sets up to this point so it is understandable that a 1942 radio might look very good in comparison.

I think the frosted night lights are 7 watts. The clear are 4 watts.
