Iam trying to figure out why these pin sockets are shown as diodes on the schematic. They have continuity.

Did you check them with a low-voltage variable supply to see if they have diode knees?

No, I just used a DMM and checked continuity.

I am not sure diodes were manufactured and used at the time that tester was being built.

Copper-oxide diodes existed at that time. I own a Triplett 1167-A set tester ca. 1935 which uses a small copper-oxide stack as the voltmeter rectifier for measuring AC. I doubt that is what is shown on the schematic, though.

What does this look like. Its soft like a wire and has continuity. Both sides go to the ohms jack.

Current shunt, covered with an asbestos braid tube. Probably a custom value...
