Bakelite Blocks - Ctkid - 10-04-2024

Hello Everyone,

I decided to replace the caps in the bakelite blocks of my Philco 84 project. Do you refill the blocks with anything after the cap upgrade?

Regards,
Bob

Air. Seriously, some have filled with hot glue to stabilize the new caps. It's up to you. My take: out of sight, yada yada.

I never fill them.
Put the cap in, try to make leads as short as possible, the rest will follow.

Never, there is no need whatsoever.  With modern Caps it would serve zero purpose.

The blocks hide the open space where once was filling by being bolted to the chassis. No one will know the difference until someone pulls them out again to do what you just did - rebuild them.
+1 what morzh said ... this is no place for sloppy wiring. Be sure ample space is between the wires and the chassis.
Take care and BE HEALTHY! Gary
