80C repair questions -
Darrin Dunn - 08-24-2025
Hello, everybody,
I’ve been on the ARF for 20 years, but somehow this is my first post here. I’ve just got an 80C, and I’m making my first attempt at restuffing a block condenser. The one I’m working on is no. 27, which is a 7625-B/SU. The literature calls for a single .006mf. I have .0056 and .0068 on hand, and I’m wondering if either (or neither) is appropriate. How much can I get away with here, and in which direction (higher/lower) does it become an issue?

Hi Darrin,
Either would be fine. I would go with the 0.0068 uF cap. Other radios actually have a 0.01 uF cap doing this job. This cap is to prevent parasitic oscillation and to cut down a little on high frequency.
Generally, any cap within 20% of the diagram is OK. This is a common problem, as nowadays, the caps do not have the same values as before. One can't find a 0.06 uF cap, only a 0.047 uF. No 0.02 uF,but a 0.022 is available, etc. I do not know the reason for the switch.

I would go with 5.6nF.
But, honestly, this is not really critical.
