38-7 Antenna Ideas - RGK20m3 - 09-06-2025

I have a 38-690 that I restored a few years ago that I have connected to a tuned loop milkcrate antenna that I made; it works well considering that the radio and antenna is in the basement- winter evenings I have a pretty consistent 700 mile reception radius. The 38-690 has a balanced antenna input.
I have yet to try this antenna on the 38-7 that I am working on; it has the same 3 screw terminal strip and is also labeled with the red-black-ground, but internally it is connected with the black grounded when BCB is selected, not balanced.
Do you think it’s worth trying? I don’t have an option for an outdoor long wire, and ultimately the 38-7 will end up on the second floor. Any other ideas? The 10’ wire along one edge of the ceiling isn’t cutting it…

Six years ago I described an ethernet antenna using a 6 foot piece of ethernet cable. I've used it many times with success. Here's a link (scroll to page 5):
