Beginning Restoration of Model 42-358, have where to find questions -
Jeansonne - 09-13-2025
As mentioned, I just picked up this radio and am just initially going through it to see what all it needs. While I wait for the new capacitors to come in, I figured I would start looking for other parts. My questions are:
1) Is there a diagram for running new tuning cord. The old one is broken so I have no idea how the cord ran. Also its missing the tuner indicator, any ideas as to where I can find one?
2) The speaker cone is all torn up and is not repairable and must be reconed. I’ve never reconed a speaker so I’m not sure how that will turn out. I see the speaker is electromagnetic. Does the electromagnet act as a choke. Thinking about possibly just replacing the speaker with a modern one in case my reconing goes kaput!
Thanks for any info you can give me!

Welcome to the Phorum!
Unfortunately I did not find a dial stringing diagram for the 42-358. One of the best places to look is Sam's Dialcord Stringing Guide..ex.

Perhaps someone here as strung one and created a diagram that they can share.
Yes the electromagnet coil acts as a choke for the radio and needs to be included in the circuit somehow if you decide to replace with a PM speaker. Others can offer better advice than me on how to do that.
