Mopar 802 (philco 4608) -

Hello to all and thanks for letting me join the group.....
Working on restoring a mopar 802 radio and was wondering if anyone knows where I can get the white plastic light filter thats behind the tuning peg???
The original is yellowed and broken off inside the front panel.
Plus a source for parts (except caps and such) would be helpful!
Thanks
Bill

Welcome to the Phorum!
Hopefully someone will have some suggestions for you, I haven't restored any automobile radios myself. I suspect its difficult to find those parts anywhere but from a donor set.

Thanks Bob....!
I've been "restoring" Ham radios for years and this is my first foray into repairing an old car radio....the electronics is easy enough but finding some of the mechanical parts is a little difficult...lol
Thanks

Bill;
I can't speak from experience but this looks like one of the typical MoPar car radios I see from 1946-early 49 Chrysler products, some being Motorola made, some Philco built, so you may it easiest to salvage the part you may need from a junk MoPar 803 that is beyond repair from a car swap meet. I remember going to one once where a guy in a stake bed truck had three or more similar ones in his offerings, I think I bought a Philco aftermarket one from the early 50s (not MoPar) he had because I had a Philco dealer magazine featuring the same set, with matching speaker. I thought of the rest, but by the time I went back he had already left.

Arran....funny you say that...been looking around the different sites for a parts rig but man they want way too much for stuff that doesn't have what I need....lol
I'll have to try the swap meets next year....I got it working and but it needs a new dial face (which I saw new on radiodaze? website) and the diffuser plastic that is right
behind the tuning indicator....doesn't sound too bad even with the 77 year old speaker! Thanks!

I take it that this diffuser is a plastic screen behind the dial? Maybe you could find some opaque material in a craft shop, or plastics shop that might work, unless it's a molded piece.

Arran...it seems it is fairly thick and had two tabs that were molded at a 90 degree angle to slide behind a metal plate to hold it in place.....the tabs broke off...I may go to a hobby shop and see if I could get some stryene they use for building models....
