Philco 91 Veneer - dconant - 02-09-2026

Hello, I had to rebuild most of one side of his radio. I stripped of all the outer veneer on the side. I applied new veneer to the side of the cabinet using solvent based contact cement. After a couple of years I have noticed there is now a bubble in the veneer where it looks like the glue did not hold. When I push on the bubble I can hear it crackling. Of course it is in the middle so I can't just squirt some glue in. Any idea how I can fix this problem? Needless to say I'm a bit bummed about this being quite proud how it turned out.

Thanks,
Dan

You can try using an exacto knife (with a new blade) to gently cut a slit across the bubble with the grain, and maybe at a slight angle. Use a syringe loaded with thinned glue to inject the glue in either side of the slit forcing the glue to cover the entire bubble. Clamp the area. Mend the slit with a finish stick.

Some suggest to apply some heat, like an iron, to activate the glue, then clamp.
