Unusual 5-Pin Speaker Connector - DaleHCook - 03-22-2026

I am looking for information about a hard-to-find 5-pin speaker connector used on some '30s and '40s radios, including my 1942 Philco 42-355 and my 1937 GE F-63. I would like to learn the manufacturer and part number of this connector or its equivalent. I have only seen it used where the plug was mounted to the speaker frame through the center hole. A cable coming out of the chassis had a mating female connector. It is the frame mounted plug which I need, for use with my Universal Shop Speaker and Dummy Field Coil. For examples of my cables see Speaker Cables and Plugs page. Note that those pages are rather dated. I have made major changes in the way that I build those cables, as well as in other parts of that system. I am in the process of updating those pages.

The speaker-mounted male connector, shown below, is marked "A. P. Co.," so it was almost certainly made by the American Phenolic Corporation (later renamed Amphenol). It may have also been made by others, such as Eby Specialty Sales Co. I need at least two of those plugs, because the Philco and the GE need different cables. Note that >>>this is not the same<<< as the 5-pin tube base plugs and sockets used in many Zenith radios of the '30s and '40s. I have not been able to find these plugs in the American Phenolic pages, or the Eby pages, in Radio's Master / The Radio-Electronic Master. The outside diameter is 1-1/16" (27mm).
