Philco 89 Code 121 - dconant - 04-01-2026

Hello, I am working on a Philco 89 code 121 (AM only). I have replaced all caps and 99 % of the resistors. The radio is playing quite well mostly. In the Evolution of the 89 my radio is the third schematic down. I have the 8A .05 uF cap in parallel with 7A and the 36 tube. I am trying to do an alignment but the 1st IF secondary is not peaking. It started out being fairly snug. The more I back it out the louder it gets. It just keeps getting louder and louder until it starts to break up. That is about three turns out so I put it back to where I found it. The 1st IF primary and 2nd IF primary peak nicely. What could be going on with the 1st IF secondary? I don't dare do any RF alignment yet. Also the lower frequency stations like 800 and 740 (my favorites) are very low in volume. I am very confident there are no mistakes.

I have restored five 89 code 123 but this is my first 121. I rather enjoy doing the 89s.
