Capacitor Can Values Needed For A Philco Model 650 -
Paul341 - 05-17-2026
Hello Everyone,
I have a 1936 Philco model 650 radio and I would like to have a member identify the three capacitors in the can with 3uf, 2uf, and 1uf. One is marked green, another is yellow, and the third is not colored. If someone could let me know the matching values I would appreciate it. Also I am looking for a clear readable wiring diagram along with the five other pages that are online for this radio. The copies from Nostalgia Air are not readable. Thank you.
Paul

Hi Paul,
Try this schematic from the Phorum library:

You can use 4.7 or 3.9 mfd electrolytic caps for those caps in the can or you can use poly caps of the same value as the old ones. They may be more expensive.

Thank you for the two very readable pages. I appreciate it very much. It would be easier for me to use three 4.7's and I may do that.

I would be inclined to use film caps in that can, I think Panasonic has a series of them available that are not too expensive, though obviously more then equivalent electrolytics. Those values were often used as filter caps in early AC radios, like the model 95 and model 20, and Radiola 18. I'm guessing that the capacitors are used for RF bypasses as almost every set that came with one still has the original can in place.
