Philco 45L -
Paul Philco322 - 06-12-2011
I recently found a Philco 45L in a Boston antique shop and am having it restored. The cabinet is almost mint, a few scratches that's it. It had been in an elderly couples home for about 65 years. The cord was rotted but the chassis was all original except for one replacement tube. Anyone got any experience with this model, same chassis as the "Butterfly" I think. Antenna advice? For a six tube job any performance feedback?
Thanks.

Hello, Paul: the 45L is a nice looking set. Yes, the same radio as the "butterfly" model. It is a relatively simple 6 tube set that had broadcast and a decent (4.2-13.0 MHz) shortwave band.
In my opinion the 5 and 6 tube Philcos from the mid '30s play and recieve very well for a 5 or 6 tube set. You definitely have a keeper.
