Unusual cap in 40-180 rebuild project. Need info. -

I am replacing the caps in a 40-180. On the volume control, there is what looks to be a paper cap with these writings: 8A 53289 .03M 300V Dumont P3 USA. I do not find this part in the Rider schematic and did not get a replacement as a part of a cap kit from Just Radio. Was it just a mistake in the schematic or is this an unnecessary part?

That DuMont cap is an obvious previous replacement cap. It
could be there in place of cap number 38 or 42, depending on where it's connected to the vol pot.
Also, are you sure it's the
volume pot and not the Tone pot? The Tone pot (with pwr swx) has a .003 mF. connected to the top end. Maybe the previous repair-person subbed cap number 50 with a wrong value?
If this DuMont cap is NOT in place of any other cap, then it's not needed and maybe it was an attempt to "fix" some condition in the past.
Definitely on the volume pot. -

I'll try to leave it out and see what happens
Thanks
