New project: 1936 model 630 -
NostalgiaRadioTime - 09-28-2012
Just picked up a nice example of this set. It *seems* in fairly good shape, but, as we all know, looks can be deceiving. I was told it works and receives stations, but (again) we've all heard that one before! It has a new (and newer style) cord on it, so someone was at least doing some kind of work to it fairly recent. I'm going to take the chassis out of the cabinet and give it the once over before I even think about applying power to it. If it's not already recapped, that will be the first order of business.
For now, I have a VERY basic (and probably dumb) question:
What are the functions of the three knobs, going from left to right (I know the top one is tuning)?
I literally just received the set today, so I haven't done anything to it. But knowing the functions of the switches will be a helpful place to start!
Thanks

Hi,
If it's like my 610 the left one is off/on volume, center is the bandswitch, don't know about the right, it's a two position switch, maybe local/distant or a tone control.

Hello, and welcome!
The control on the left is the power/volume.
The middle one is the band switch, all the way counter clock wise is the broadcast (AM) band. The middle position is shortwave 1.75 to 5.8 MHz, and the position all the way clock wise is shortwave 5.7 to 18.0 MHz.
The 630 is a pretty good six tube set.

Thanks! Is the third (far right hand) switch for tone? It is a 3 position switch.

Yes, the third (far right) control is the tone control.
