Grill cloth repair -

Attaching several pictures of the grill cloth on my Philco 90. There is one bad patch and another hole. Would like to save the cloth for obvious reasons. Those two areas are the worse, the areas that have separated slightly really are not too noticeable when mounted with the speaker. There is enough area around the edges to harvest some material to place behind the hole and perhaps do a better job where previously someone just put a clear tape over the other hole.
Any ideas as to how to attach some harvested material over the holes from the back would be appreciated.
Jerry

Well, the way I have seen it done is to harvest a piece at least 1 inch larger in length and width, and pull away about 1/2 inch of woven threads in all direction. then use a pin to guide these "hairs" into the area surrounding the hole. When you are finished, the tiniest bit of fabric glue to hold patch and then snip all remaing hairs. Beware that the patch will probably be lighter in color than the rest of the grille cloth, so you could probably stain the donor material with some tea, coffee, or whatever to make the repair less noticable. Sort of like fixing a hole in a window screen.
Another way to fix is to darn the hole like a sock with harvested threads of similar color thread. This can be practically invisible when done by a talented seamstress.
No, I no longer attempt such delicate work anymore. My better half can.

Thanks codefox, I will pass this on to my wife who is very talented with thread work. Certainly would be easier to find grill cloth that is close, but I have been unable so far. The great grill cloth shortage/unavailable really sucks.
