Philco 40-180 antennae wire? -
diyahnih - 06-23-2007
Hello everyone,
I have a 40-180 philco radio. It has two wires sticking out in the back, by the transformer. I strongly believe the original owner used these two wires for a rabbit ear antennae. I just want to make sure that that is really what they are for. On the back of the chassis there are places for a ground and antennae wire.
Does anyone know for sure about these wires?
Thank You

Hi Diyahnih
For starters - since you have two wires protruding from a place near the power transformer -
PROCEED WITH CAUTION.
Model 40-180 has a built-in loop antenna, which is shaped like a long oval tube. It needs no external antenna, even though there is a provision for one.
You really should find out what those wires are - with the set unplugged, of course - and where they come from. They should not be there.

Ron,
Thanks for the info--
I think I will take this radio to a repair shop--I think these wires may have something to do with the transformer.
