Why did Philco not put serial numbers on the radio chasics like Zenith did on theirs? Neither did RCA why? Cost cutting maybe?

I think it might be because Philco and RCA generally matched up thier chassis with the model number on the cabinet. Zenith tended to make one type chassis, then stick them in something like a million styles of cabinet depending on trim and shape. So, you needed the chassis number for servicing.

O.K. Jayce sounds about right but it would good to know how many radios were made based on the serial numbers for a set.
