Philco 91X dual speaker question -

Hey everyone,
This is probably a stupid question, but what is the point of the dual speakers on the Xmodels with the inclined sound boards? I mean they look like they are just hooked together in parallel, so it certainly isn't a woofer/tweeter set up or an attempt at stereo. Is it a way to get more volume out of the set or was it just sales gimmick? I was lucky enough to find an H7 and K12 from a 15X from a member on another forum for $25 plus shipping. The cone on the large speaker was beyond repair but i found a usable replacement in my stash that needed only small repairs. So i now have all the parts to build my "PhrankenPhilco" 91X
!!!!

Speakers have dips and peaks in the frequency response due to mechanical resonances, and two non-identical speakers can compensate for each other.
